Euro 2008 – El Futbol Hermoso de España!
The European Championships of 2008 will well be remembered as ‘El Futbol Hermoso de España’ (The Beautiful Futbol of Spain). Since 1960 every four years, in the even numbered years between the World Cup competitions UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations) holds the European Football Championship. This year Austria and Switzerland held host to 16 nations in what proved to be one of the most well played and exciting championships in the tournament's history. Much credit goes to Spain who won their second European Championship beating three-time winners Germany in the final with technically superior creative attacking soccer.
The European Champions speak Spanish and in reality Spain spoke a different language on the field, the language of beautiful soccer! A new generation of Spanish futbol is upon us and the rest of Europe and the world are getting a taste of the beauty of the Spanish game. The art of a quick close passing style exemplifying perfect technique and touch enabled the Spaniards to dissect their opponents with beauty and precision. The Spanish also masters of the counterattack kept the ball close to their hearts never wanting to give the ball up until it was in the back of the opponents net, Goalaso!!!
This year the word ‘hermoso’ appears on our Creative Player camp t-shirts. Even prior to Spain being crowned the Champions of Europe this word was selected as symbol of the beautiful attacking soccer that is a product of the many Spanish speaking cultures. Once again the Creative Player philosophy of promoting technically superior attacking soccer is validated by reality on the field. Even more proof of the quality of our Creative Player Coaching Vision is that Xavi, Spain’s creative player and orchestrator at midfield was selected as the tournaments most outstanding player. We are delighted at the success of soccer nations and cultures who promote the role of beautiful soccer and the role of the ‘Creative Player’.
