"Everbody has to know how to score goals" - Wimmer Cabrera, US U-17 Head Coach

Date Posted: 12/10/2009

Self expression and the ability to score goals is at the top of the list for Wimmer Cabrera the former two-time Columbia World Cup veteran who now heads up the U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, FL. "Yes we have to posses the ball, but most important in soccer is scoring goals. That's what makes you win or lose. You have to score goals. Everybody has to know how to score goals." Cabrera states, that it is hard to find players with the offensive mentality.  That is why Creative Player focuses on teaching creative attack building skills to all players, regardless of position, knowing that everybody must be able to create and finish an attack with the ability score.

Our Lethal Shooting program focuses on the "art" of scoring whether it is finishing with finesse and deadly accuracy or over a distance with a lethal instep drive.  Yet there is much more!  Being able to score with the head, off a cross, or with a volley is part of developing Lethal Shooting skills! Scoring off the dribble and converting breakaway situations is also an important part of developing an offensive arsenal.  Players need to be encouraged to develop this ability with both feet and to express themselves as attacking personalities.  Cabrera wants players who are more artistic and not robotic or mechanical.  Creative Player has this philosophy at the heart of what we teach.  We want all our players to make their own creative contribution with the confidence and ability to score!
